My Heart is Home For the Holidays
It’s Christmas Eve! The farm has been in full-swing holiday mode for weeks! I can’t believe how quickly December flew by! Not a day went past that didn’t involve some kind of Christmas merriment or preparation! And now, it’s here!
We plucked our tree early, but it stood like naked sentinel in the living room for a while because we were so dang busy doing other things to get it decorated. But, like everything always does, somehow or another, it finally got dressed and showed up ready for the party.
Delilah Jr. rocked her Christmas concert! While all the other chorus members were looking adorably angelic, Delilah was gettin’ down to that crazy Christmas carol beat! She was DANCING, even doing the floss at one point! It had the audience in stitches! I can only shake my head with an understanding that only MY mother (and those of other show-offs) can truly appreciate. Much to Delilah’s delight, my niece’s handsome hubby Nick missed out on a guys-night because he’d promised to be at the show. Love him!
I made my annual early December trip to the Big Apple surrounded by family, friends, and so many incredible listeners and co-workers from the New York area! We had a phenomenal time skating in Central Park, watching the broadway production “Summer” (the Donna Summer story), admiring the tree at Rockefeller Center, oohhing and aahhing over dazzling window displays, shopping at Zabars, and eating in little Italy! I stinkin’ LOVE the city at Christmastime!
While there, I met with several media folks, to talk about my book, One Heart At A Time; Mike Huckabee from Huckabee, Dr. Oz and his wife, Lisa on the America’s Doctor podcast, and Anderson Cooper, Full Circle (a Facebook LIVE program.)Each are linked to their platforms so that you may listen in on our interviews. All were remarkably REAL, kind, sincere, and remarkable all in their own unique ways. Isn’t that true of all of us? Despite our differences, we are all so much more alike than we ever give ourselves credit for!
Gingerbread houses have been assembled and decorated to the nth degree. More icing made it to the table, the floor, the hands, faces, and mouths, than made it onto “snowy” roof-tops, but isn’t that all part of the fun?!
I’m missing my Zack and my Sammy for certain. Zack loved Christmas and my annual tradition of giving out matching pajama’s on Christmas eve. He also loved our wacky scavenger hunts for stand-out gifts - done, of course, wearing those matching pj’s! Sammy didn’t really “get” the American traditions of Christmas gift-giving and gorging. Christmas and birthdays in a Ghanian orphanage were not celebrated. I am so glad he was able to experience the excitement and joy of each in the short time we had him in our embrace.
